Family of man killed in Pak firing handed over ex-gratia relief

Jammu:  Authorities in Poonch have handed over an ex-gratia relief of over Rs 1 lakh to the next of kin of a man who was killed in shelling by the Pakistan army along the Line of Control in the district, officials said on Sunday.

The man, Mohammad Sadiq, 62, was killed after a shell exploded near him during a ceasefire violation by Pakistan on Friday.

Poonch Deputy Commissioner Rahul Yadav visited Mankote sector on Saturday and handed over Rs 1,10,000 as ex-gratia assistance to Sadiq’s family, the officials said.

Yadav interacted with the victim’s family and assured them of all possible help to mitigate their sufferings, they said.

The deputy commissioner was accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Ramesh Angral and Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Mendhar, Sahil Jandyal, among other police and civil officers, they said.
