Advisor Sharma for innovative measures to boost entrepreneurship in view of COVID-19

SRINAGAR: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, K K Sharma, today exhorted upon the Jammu & Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) to come up with innovative measures and interventions to catalyze the entrepreneurial atmosphere especially in view of the challenges posed by the global pandemic.

The Advisor was interacting with the officers of JKEDI during his visit to the complex.

Director JKEDI, GM Dar, Director Industries and Commerce, Kashmir, Mehmood Shah and other senior officers of administration, Jammu and Kashmir Industries Limited and faculty members of JKEDI were present.

Advisor said that the role of institutes like JKEDI is pivotal especially in view of the new challenges posed by the situation which has arisen due to the COVID pandemic. “Come up with plans and proposals so that we can also make a contribution by way of suggesting something innovative which would effectively push the entrepreneurial atmosphere in the UT, which has also suffered like rest of the country due to COVID-19”, he maintained adding it would be a lasting contribution to Jammu and Kashmir.

While reviewing the schemes being implemented by the JKEDI, Advisor directed for making a viable ecosystem for the aspiring entrepreneurs so that they can effectively contribute in uplifting the entrepreneurial sector in Jammu and Kashmir and emerge as job creators, besides contributing to the economy of this region. He advised the EDI officials to ensure advanced skill development and specialized training to the youth in consonance with the emerging requirements and trends.

Advisor also asked for fine tuning the working and mandate of the institute and also taking a cue from others   working in different parts of the country especially in Gujrat, which is also associated with carrying out research work.

Meanwhile, Advisor went around the complex and inspected various facilities and other infrastructure put in place.

Earlier, Advisor visited the proposed site of Information Centre tower coming up at Sempra, Pampore.

Director Industries informed the Advisor that an amount of Rs. 14.75  crore has been earmarked for developing land in an area of about 371 Kanal. He was also told that the proposed Information Centre would be having all the latest IT facilities under one roof for industrialists and entrepreneurs.

Advisor also visited the joinery workshop and showroom of Jammu and Kashmir Industries Limited at Sempora, Pampore. He inspected various products and called for putting in place a robust marketing mechanism, so that these quality products are marketed in a proper way within the state and outside.

Later, Advisor visited the site of the erstwhile Brick and Tile factory at Pampore and directed the officers for exploring the possibility of setting up of industrial estate at the place.
