Covid cases cross 19000 mark in J&K; Srinagar tops with 4476 positives

Amid spike in coronavirus cases, India boosts capacity for tougher challenges ahead

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday reported 540 novel coronavirus cases including 67 travelers, taking the overall count past 19000 mark. Among them, 389 cases were reported from Kashmir, and 151 from Jammu.

Giving district wise details, official sources said that Srinagar reported 203 cases, Baramulla 20, Kulgam 15, Shopian 4, Anantnag 26, Kupwara 3, Pulwama 67, Budgam 45, Bandipora 3, Ganderbal 3, Jammu 49, Kathua 17, Rajouri 33, Udhampur 10, Ramban 8, Samba 12, Poonch 5, Kishtwar 5 and Doda 6.

In Kashmir, Srinagar tops the list with 4476 cases followed by Baramulla with 1835, Kulgam 1491, Shopian 1416, Anantnag 1258, Pulwama 1363, Kupwara 1069, Budgam 1228, Bandipora 678, and Ganderbal 387.

In Jammu division, Jammu district has 989 cases, Rajouri 633, Ramban 533, Kathua 511, Udhampur 427, Samba 404, Doda 265, Poonch 197, Kishtwar 134 and Reasi 125 . With the new cases, the tally overall has risen to 19419 — 15202 in Kashmir and 4218 in Jammu.

Meanwhile, the officials on Wednesday informed that 15 COVID-19 deaths have been reported; 01 from Jammu division and 14 from Kashmir Division.

They said that 437 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, 70 from Jammu Division and 367 from Kashmir Division.

They further said that out of 19419 positive cases, 7749 are Active Positive, 11322 have recovered and 349 have died; 25 in Jammu division and 324 in Kashmir division.

“Out of 615380 test results available, 595961 samples have been tested as negative till July 29, 2020,” they said.
