Srinagar: Senior vice president Peoples Conference and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil has expressed surprise over some political parties eagerly demanding Statehood, which actually shouldn’t be a demand, but a commitment of the present regime in the centre.

“It is unfortunate that the some traditional political parties are still bent upon to exploit the issue of statehood for their political gains but they must understand that people are fed up by their false promises in the past and people also know that they are responsible for the present political uncertainty in J&K,” Vakil said in a statement issued today.

“Why are some political parties demanding for statehood when Prime Minister of India has made his commitment of Statehood to J&K in his National Broadcast addressed specially to the  people of J&K and the same commitment has been made on the floor of the parliament by the Home Minister of India .They have to do it. But the problem is they are delaying it. Why should we make it as a demand,” Vakil said.

Demanding restoration of article 370 is not a crime, it was in the Indian constitution and should be included in the constitution in the interest of the nation and J&K, he said.
