UDHAMPUR: Jammu & Kashmir Industries (JKI) today started Cocoon Auction Market here at its Office Complex.

The whole process was carried under the Supervision of Additional Director Sericulture Dev. Department, Jammu and Financial Advisor, J&K Industries Jammu.

The JKI participated in the market and purchased a good quantity of Cocoons from 33 Farmers who were called as per the Calendar issued for the marketing in accordance to the COVID-19 protection SOPs.

The JKI has set a target of procuring 60 thousand KG of Cocoons from Jammu Region for its use in newly established Silk Filatures at Bari Brahmana Jammu which will provide a huge relief to the Cocoon rearers of Jammu region as no local or outside buyers are participating in the auction process.

This intervention will secure livelihood of thousands of cocoon rearers in Jammu Region as the Cocoon is being bought by JKI at genuine market rates.

To safeguard the livelihood of twenty thousand families of cocoon rearers, the Government of J&K has launched an integrated approach for improving the infrastructure related to   the production and processing of Silk and JKI has been entrusted the job pro-actively intervene in the Cocoon market to ensure the end of exploitation of cocoon growers by way of fetching them their genuine rate of cocoons.

It is in context of these instructions the JKI would be procuring 60 thousand KGs Cocoons in Jammu Division and 50 thousand KGs in Kashmir and shall be using the same in newly established Silk Units at Jammu/Srinagar.
