Tangmarg: Drinking water shortage has hit Tangmarg area as 12-inch water pipeline has bursted resulting in water leakage at several places.

“We are facing shortage of safe drinking water and people are longing for a drop of water in the hottest days of the summer as the water pipeline has bursted at several places resulting in leakage of water,” said a local, Ali Mohammad.

Although the employees of Jal Shakti department are busy in repairing the pipeline, water supply in the town as well as other areas has not been restored yet, locals added.

“Employees are busy in restoring the pipelines and the same is expected to be restored by tomorrow,” said Saber Ahmad AEE PHE department.

Meanwhile, locals as well as Tangmarg traders have accused the Jal Shakti department of delaying the replacement of damaged water pipelines.

Locals allege the PHE department has not used water tankers as an alternative to manage the water shortage. “People are being forced to drink contaminated water from streams and canals.”

People of affected areas have demanded immediate repair of water pipeline.
