2 militants killed, 3 soldiers injured in Kulgam encounter
Srinagar: Two unidentified militants were killed and three armymen including a JCO were injured during an encounter between the militants and security forces in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Saturday, police said.
Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the Arrah area of Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Saturday based on specific information about the presence of militants there, a police official said.
He said as the forces were conducting searches in the area, militants fired upon them.
The forces retaliated, ensuing a gunfight in which two militants were killed, the official said.
During the operation, three army soldiers including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were also injured and they have been hospitalized, he added.
He said the operation was going on till last reports came in and further details were awaited.
Today’s was the 17th encounter in the southern districts since June 01. In south Kashmir, 48 militants have been killed since June 01, and in this year so far 120 militants have been killed in various encounters across Kashmir.
