SRINAGAR: Director School Education Kashmir Mohammad Younis Malik today laid an emphasis on the need to reach out to the students so that children do not feel alienated during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

He said this while an interaction session with the team of teacher counselors presently engaged with the on-call counseling of students under ‘student outreach programme’ initiated by DSEK in view of Covid-19 pandemic.

Malik advised the counselors to continue the process in such a way that children and their parents have a sense of belongingness and ownership from the teachers and stressed upon them to take the initiative forward with a missionary zeal and reach out to the children in a friendly manner.

The Director said that no student should be left out and children living at the tail end should get the benefits of the initiatives taken by the department.

The counselors gave detailed feedback of the reach out programme and informed the Director that till date more than one lac students have been contacted and given counseling regarding their anxieties, mental stress and other academic concerns.

The counselors informed that students are trying to get the maximum out of the digital and other platforms provided by the department for continuation of studies while at home.

The students and parents have appreciated the recent initiative of community schooling and on-call counseling of students by a panel of more than 70 teacher counselors from all districts taken by the Education department

It is in place to mention that DSEK has roped in professional counselors and mental health experts from various departments and organizations like IMHANS and GMC Srinagar for counseling of students especially during the current Covid-19 pandemic situation.
