Militants trade gunfire with forces in Lolab Woods

Amid fresh firing, clashes erupted near Handwara encounter site

Kupwara: A brief exchange of gunfire between security forces and militants took place in the woods of Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district this morning following which intensive searches were launched.

Officials told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a brief exchange of gunfire between militants and security forces took place within lolab woods but no fresh contact with the militants has been established.

Senior Superintendent of police Kupwara, Shriram Ambarkar also confirmed to KNO about the brief exchange of gunfire in Lolab Woods.

“A brief exchange of gunfire took place between security forces and militants in the woods of Lolab”, he said.

He refuted the claims about any encounter in the area, adding that after brief exchange of gunfire only searches are underway.

He also said after the exchange of brief gunfire there is no fresh firing in the area only joint searches are going on.
