Srinagar: Police on Wednesday foiled People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader, Er Nazir Ahmad Yatoo’s bid to hoist erstwhile state flag of Jammu and Kashmir at historic ‘Ghanta Ghar’ here and arrested him.

PDP leader, according to witnesses, appeared at the Court Road holding the flag of the erstwhile state in his hand, and began running towards the Ghanta Ghar (clock tower) at Lal Chowk while raising pro-Kashmir slogans. However, he was arrested by the police and lodged at Maisuma police station.

Pertinently the flag of the erstwhile state was removed from Civil Secretariat and other government buildings on October 31 last year three months after the Centre abrogated special constitutional position of Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated it into two Union Territories on August 05, 2019.

Yatoo, who was vice-chairman of JK Cements during PDP-BJP coalition, was still under detention when this report was filed.
