Srinagar: In an interesting development, BJP and Congress have distanced from the no-confidence motion that is being brought against Srinagar Mayor, Junaid Mattu on Tuesday.

BJPs chief whip, Arif Raja on Monday clarified that party will not be part of no-confidence motion.

“We (BJP) are not part of no-confidence motion,” a local news agency, KNS, quoted Raja as saying.

“If any of our corporators has participated in motion of no-confidence, the same should not be considered as we withdraw from the same,” he told KNS.

Meanwhile, Congress party on Monday too decided to refrain from no confidence motion in Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Tuesday.

According to statement issued to KNS the Party after holding threadbare discussions with senior party leaders and Corporators in Srinagar decided to refrain from no confidence motion moved against the Mayor.

“The INC Corporators shall not be part of voting process in the Corporation. The Corporators have been issued a whip and the same has been conveyed to concerned authorities in the Corporation,” KNS quoted the Congress statement as saying.

It may be recalled here that some SMC Corporators have decided to move a no-confidence motion against incumbent Mayor.

However, if the statements of BJP and Congress are taken on face value, the Mayor may survive the motion.
