Pregnant woman dies due to alleged medical negligence; probe ordered
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Budgam: Protests broke out at District Hospital at a district hospital in Central Kashmir’s after a pregnant woman died soon after giving birth a new born baby late last night yesterday. The family member of the deceased alleged medical negligence by the doctor while the district administration has sought a report and promised action if any “negligence is found.”

A woman identified as Haseena Bano, 34, wife of Ghulam Hassan Malik, a resident of Labertal, Budgam was admitted to the District hospital Budgam after she developed labour pain. She gave birth to a baby boy after a cesarean surgery at the hospital at around 1 o’clock in the night.

“Soon after the surgery, her condition deteriorated and the hospital administration asked her to shift her to Srinagar. But she was almost dead,” said Ashiq Hussain, a close relative of the deceased woman. “And within no time, she breathed her last.”

Another family member of the deceased woman said that when the body reached the village Labertal, Budgam, massive protests broke out. “A medical team from the hospital visited the family only to justify the death saying they tried their best to save the woman,” he said.

The family members of the deceased woman, however, alleged that “the woman died of sheer negligence by the doctors and para-medical staff.”

Locals of the area also demanded inquiry into the death of the woman. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO),  Medical Superintendent of the hospital, Dr Rafiq Ahmad said that a 34-year-old woman died at the district hospital yesterday evening after giving birth to a baby boy.

“The doctors tried their best to save her but the woman couldn’t make it,” he said. “The condition of the woman deteriorated due to pulmonary thromboembolism.”

Deputy Commissioner Budgam Shahbaz Mirza said that he has come across the issue. “I have asked for a report. I assure that if there is any negligence in this case, action will follow and there will be no laxity,” the DC told KNO

The protests, however, were on at Labertral village of Budgam till this report was filed.
