Dr Samoon distributes laptops among Special Educators

SRINAGAR: Principal Secretary, School Education, Dr Asgar Samoon reviewed the functioning of Inclusive Education Component of Samagra Shiksha, J&K here today.

The meeting was attended by Director School Education, Jammu, Anuradha Gupta, Project Director, Samagra Shiksha, Arun Manhas and other concerned from Jammu via video conferencing.

During the meeting, Dr Arun Manhas apprised the Principal Secretary that various initiatives have been taken under Samagra Shiksha for Children with Special Needs under Inclusive Education including distribution of free Aid & Appliances, disbursement of different allowances through DBT and providing free Textbooks to Children with Special Needs. Besides, these children are also escorted to attend national and international events where they display their talents.

Considering these activities the EDCIL Group which is also Educational Support Group to MHRD, provided 42 Laptops to Samagra Shiksha, J&K under their CSR Programme.

Later, Dr Samoon distributed these laptops to Special Educators in order to strengthen the scheme.

Dr Samoon stated that under Inclusive Education Component of Samagra Shiksha, more than 70 Resource Rooms have been established covering all the districts of J&K. Special Educators have been engaged under Samagra Shiksha and placed in these Resource Rooms which caters to the Educational needs and Therapeutics support of Children with Special Needs of their respective districts.

He said that Braille Tactile Readers were procured in 2016 and provided to these Resource Rooms to facilitate Visually Impaired Children. In order to enhance the functional capacity of these Braille Readers, Laptops are being provided to attach with these machines so that the Visually Impaired children can have easy access to Internet and other digital resources.

While interacting with Special Educators, Principal Secretary stressed on using ICT enabled resources and Digital Medium to educate Children with Special Needs and to maintain their Individual Educational Plans regularly.

He also asked the teachers to make extensive use of these Laptops in maintain digital databases of CWSN and preparing Teaching Learning Material for the children.

Meanwhile in Jammu, Director School Education, Anuradha Gupta and Project Director Samagra Shiksha, Dr Arun Manhas- also distributed laptops to Jammu based Special Educators.

The distribution was conducted simultaneously in both the divisions.

All the Special Educators expressed their gratitude to the Department for consistent support and facilitating them from time to time.
