UTRC holds meeting to identify eligible prisoners for release

JAMMU JUNE 04:  In compliance to the directions of the Supreme Court of India and as per the protocol (SoP) prepared by the National Legal Services Authority, the Under Trial Review Committee (URTC) Jammu, comprising Sanjeev Gupta, Chairman DLSA (Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Jammu, Naushad Ahmed Khan, Secretary DLSA Jammu, Sushma Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu,  Shridhar Patil, SSP Jammu today met through video conferencing for identifying and gathering information of all eligible prisoners presently lodged in district jail Amphalla and central jail, Kot Bhalwal Jammu who are covered under section 436 CrPC and 436A CrPC.

The Committee also sought information from the Superintendent of the concerned jails regarding the release of all the eligible prisoners who had been identified and were ordered to be released on the directions of the High Powered Committee. The UTRC also directed the jail authorities to expedite the process of releasing all remaining left eligible prisoners identified by HPC, after following the due process as laid down by the HPC.

The Committee was apprised by the concerned jail authorities about the precautionary measures being adopted in their prisoners with respect to the prevention of the Corona Virus infection. The committee also sought report of any difficulties being faced by the jail authorities regarding implementation of the precautionary measures.

The Committee also asked the jail authorities to regularly apprise the prisoners about the virus, self hygiene requirements and all recent information regarding the COVID-19 infection besides collecting information of the quality of basic necessities available in the jail such as water, food, medical care, sanitation, proper clothing, bedding, hygiene w.r.t to keeping of kitchen, toilets and barracks. The well being of the jail inmates both male and female was also discussed.
