Srinagar, May 27: A minor girl and a woman was killed while another lady sustained injuries on Wednesday after a tree uprooted by strong winds fell on them in Keller area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.

Officials told  said at around 05:00 PM, they received a call that in forest area of Shukroo Chulawali in Shopian district, a Bakerwal family came under a tree in which a minor girl identified as Babli, 10, daughter of Gami Bajran and a woman identified Zaina Bano, 50, wife of Abdul Qayoom Jogi of Akhnoor died.

They said that one more lady who came under the tree identified as Shabnum, 25, wife of Mustafa Bajran of Akhnoor sustained injuries. “She was evacuated to hospital Keller for treatment,” they added.

Block Medical Officer (BMO) Keller said that a minor girl and a woman were declared dead at the hospital while the other is undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Meanwhile, a lady was also killed after a tin shed fell down due to strong winds in Srigufwara area of Anantnag district, officials said.

They said that a tin sheet fell down on the head of a lady from her residential house, which left her seriously wounded. “She was rushed to the Sub District Hospital (SDH) Srigufwara where doctors declared her brought dead,” officials said while identifying her as Nuzhat Bashir, 24, daughter of Bashir Ahmed Khanday of Hugam area of Srigufwara. Station House Officer (SHO) also confirmed the incident and death of the lady.

At the same time, private car was also damaged after a tree uprooted by strong winds fell down on it in Roohu area of Anantnag district in South Kashmir, officials said, adding that a swift car was parked in the area when it got damaged. “Nobody was inside the car when the incident took place,” they said –(KNO)
