Ejaz Ahmad Waza, son of deceased, said, “On May 6th, I along with my father went to the in-laws of my pregnant sisters at Shadipora Sumbal to settle an issue of harassment as my sister had complained of beating by in-laws and her husband.”

He said that they brought her sister home but after few days her husband Wasim Ahmad took her back forcibly. “He also beat her on way to his home,” alleged Ejaz.

The pregnant woman was left alone by her husband after being thrashed. She called her father and narrated the whole thing to him.

“When my father raised the issue of harassment with the father in-law of my sister and his family members present on the occasion, they in response turned violent and attacked him with lathi and injured him critically,” Ejaz said.

He was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries after four days of the incident, Ejaz alleged.

Demanding stern action against the accused, the family of the deceased has asked the authorities to do justice. They have lodged a report in the nearby police station in this connection.

Sources at Police Station Sumabal said that a case has been registered under FIR No. 72/2020 u/s 341,324 IPC in this connection and investigation is going on.
