JAMMU: The government has embarked upon Haryana-Migrant Workers Evacuation Plan to evacuate 470 J&K migrant labourers from 12 districts of Haryana stranded there due to COVID-19 lockdown.

In this regard, the government has arranged a fleet of 20 busues to get these migrant labourers back to their homes.

Meanwhile, the Jammu district administration today received 3rd COVID-19 special train carrying 952 passengers of various districts of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. So far, three trains have reached Jammu with a total of 2870 stranded passengers belonging to different districts.

Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Sushma Chauhan, who is supervising the whole process of boarding and de-boarding of returnees at Jammu Railway station, informed that 100 per cent sampling of returnees has been done at the kiosks established by the district administration at the station. Besides, an elaborate transport system has been put in place to take the passengers to their native districts for adminstrative quarantine amidst strict adherence to the guidelines issued by MHA and MoFHW regarding COVID-19, she added.

Additionally, the government has evacuated about 3178 stranded residents of J&K from 15th May morning to morning  of 16th May thus taking the total figure to 52396 people who have returned to the UT through Lakhanpur besides bringing back home 9243 persons through special trains at Jammu and Udhampur till May 16.

As per an official information, a train has been scheduled to run from Bengaluru to J&K on 17 th May, for bringing back the J&K people stranded in Karnataka. In this regard, the concerned persons have been asked to contact the local administration for seeking permission to move for Benguluru to catch the said train. The third special COVID train has brought over 952 J&K stranded residents to Jammu this morning while the train from Nagpur today reached at Railway station Udhampur carrying 1027 passengers. Besides, the 8th train from Bangaluru carrying about 655 stranded persons is expected to reach Udhampur by tonight.

At Udhampur, the trains were being received by Deputy Commissioner, Piyush Singhla, who had a brief interaction with the passengers about their journey and facilities. He informed that the district administration Udhampur has made elaborate arrangements for reception and departure of these passengers to their homes in different districts of J&K. “Corona Warriors are facilitating the returnees to reach their homes”, he added.

DC informed that the district authorities are ensuring strict adherence to the guidelines issued by Ministries of Home Affairs and Health & Family Welfare regarding COVID-19 during the boarding and de-boarding process in the district.  It is being ensured that the passengers observe social distancing and wear masks.

As per the official communiqué, of 52396 returnees evacuated through Lakhanpur till May 16, 2020 (morning) included 11597 from Punjab; 18920 from Himachal Pardesh, 4473 from Dehli, 865 from Gujrat, 1718 from Rajasthan, 2921 from Haryana, 106 from Chattisgarh, 2779 from Uttarakhand, 341 from Maharashtra, 3246 from Uttar Pradesh, 42 from Odhisa, 35 from Assam and 814 from Madhya Pradesh, 88 from Dehradun, 638 from Chandigarh, 443 from Telengana, 222 from Bihar and 3148 from other states and UTs.

Also, the daily truck arrival carrying industrial raw material and construction material has crossed 2100 mark with total 61651 trucks entering J&K since COVID-19 lockdown, a clear indication of economic activities showing increasing trend in J&K.
