Hazratbal fire incident: DC Srinagar visits affected families

SRINAGAR: Following an incident of fire breaking out before dawn today at Hazratbal area the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary visited the affected families to console them and assess the damage from the tragic incident.

It is notable that 5 houses were damaged and a total of 10 families affected in the fire incident at the area.

The DC spent a fair amount of time with the affected families during his visit to them and also took a firsthand assessment of the damage that this tragic incident had caused.

He was informed that two houses were completely damaged whereas the remaining three houses as affected had partial damages from the fire incident.

Dr Shahid authorised an ex gratia of 15 lakh rupees for the affected families and also instructed for immediate provision of other relief requirements.

On his instructions 6 affected families whose houses were completely damaged in the fire incident were shifted to a government building where power and water supplies were reinforced and made available instantly.

The affected families were also provided with household items like kitchen utensils and bedding as well items of food like rice and wheat. The families were assured that further assistance as possible will be extended to them from the district administration.

Speaking on the occasion the DC lauded the concerned Tehsidlar and SHO and the Fire Services official for prompt action which resulted in preventing further damage that the incident could have lead to in the area.

On the occasion he also visited the fire station in the area to inspect its equipment and assess its requirements. He sought details of requisite equipment available with the fire station and that of gaps which need bridging assuring that the station will be equipped with all requisite infrastructure.
