SRINAGAR: Refuting the claims made by a local news agency regarding the issuance of directives to few officials of Srinagar Municipality Commissioner (SMC)  asking them to go for home quarantine, Commissioner, SMC, Gazanfar Ali today said, “No such directives were received by my office, neither has my office issued any order in this regard.”

The Commissioner said that the news that surfaced after the brother of a Corporator was tested positive of COVID-19 is factually incorrect.

He said that the Commissioner’s Office has no contact with the concerned Corporator. “Our offices are in different buildings and the concerned Corporator has no contact with Commissioner’s office.”

Gazanfar Ali further said that the SMC works are going in full swing amid COVID 19 pandemic and all the preventive measures are being taken by the officials including use of protective gears and sanitizers.

The Commissioner said that it will be encouraged if anyone having contact with the concerned Corporator goes into self-quarantine till his test report is received.

In the meantime, Commissioner today convened a meeting of senior officials to review various works being carried by the Corporation.

On the occasion, threadbare discussions was held on proper functioning of the drainage system, sanitation works, removing of encroachment on water bodies and river banks and the installation of high-mast lights in the city.

The Commissioner stressed upon officers to work in tandem and ensure all the works are carried out and monitored properly, keeping in view the role of SMC in public deliverance.
