Ensure adequate medical supplies to Veterinary hospitals: Advisor Bhatnagar to officials

SRINAGAR: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today took a detailed review of activities launched by Animal Husbandry Department while dealing with the situation arising due to pandemic COVID-19 in a meeting here.

The meeting was attended by Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir, Purnima Mittal and other officials of the department.

Speaking on the occasion, Advisor Bhatnagar said that adequate quantities of medicine and other supplies should be made available at all the veterinary hospitals of the valley in order to deal with any contingency. He added that farmers should be regularly informed about the management and rearing of animals during these critical times.

Director Animal Husbandry informed the meeting that around 9352 animals have been treated in emergency cases, 6645 vaccinations conducted, 11,347 doses performed besides 4774 Artificial inseminations have also been performed during recent times.

The Advisor directed the officials that all the livestock farmers should be regularly updated about rearing of animals besides regular advisories should be published regarding the hygiene of animals during these crucial times.

The meeting was informed that the registered farmers are being informed about scientific management and rearing of animals including poultry through SMS alert service besides advisories are being regularly released in both print and electronic media for awareness of general masses.

It was also given out in the meeting that tele-medicine facility has also been launched for livestock farmers and during the last four days around 1244 such cases were attended by the department.

The Advisor stressed upon the officials to follow all the measures while working in the field and all the required precautions like social distancing, hand hygiene and others should be adhered to so as to contain the spread of infection.

Advisor Bhatnagar directed the officials that adequate milk and poultry supply should be made available to the public besides medicine should also be distributed to the livestock farmers.

The Advisor also directed the officials that all the veterinary frontline workers should take all necessary precautions while working and follow all advisories regarding COVID-19 strictly.
