DC B’la conducts extensive tour of flood-prone areas in Pattan

BARAMULLA: Deputy Commissioner (DC), Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo accompanied by a team of officers today conducted an extensive tour of the flood-prone areas of Pattan to take stock of the flood like situation caused by recent incessant rains in the district.

The team visited Hanjiwara, Pattan and its adjoining areas located along Jhelum embankments to examine the situation and to get the first hand appraisal of the same.

During the visit, the DC directed Irrigation and Flood Control authorities to expedite the work of strengthening the embankments of river Jehlum and other major canals in the area so that the situation remains under control. He stressed upon the concerned departments to remain vigilant in case of any exigency.

He asked the concerned officers to mobilize men and machinery and to keep them ready so that any kind of eventuality is tackled smoothly. He also called for close coordination between the departments to ensure timely rescue and rehabilitation, as and when needed. Moreover, DC appealed the people not to panic and remain vigilant besides urging them to remain connected with the administration.

Earlier, the DC distributes about 45 honey bee crates among the identified unemployed persons, to enable them to earn sustainable livelihood. About 21 honeybee crates were distributed on spot while the remaining will be delivered at the door steps of selected beneficiaries.
