Timber smugglers on looting spree in Tangmarg

Tangmarg: Taking advantage of Covid-19 lock down timber smugglers continue to plunder of green gold in Tangmarg’s Kalantra and Baderkote, however, Forest Protection Force of forest department seized the illicit timber in the area and registered case against smugglers.

Acting on specific information about felling of green trees and illicit timber being smuggled in Kalantra and Baderkote area, Assistant Director Forest Protection Force Syed Siraj-ud-din constituted special teams to act against smugglers.

“We have seized around 33 cubic feet of illicit timber in Baderkote and 52 cubic feet illicit timber from Kalantra and manhunt has been launched to nab the smugglers,” said Assistant Director Forest Protection Force Syed Siraj-ud-din.

He further informed that smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of darkness. “We have intensified our night surveillance and kept our force on alert to curb the smuggling of illicit timber.”
