SMC sprays 50,000 litres of sanitization chemical mixture daily

SRINAGAR: Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is spraying 50,000 litres of decontamination chemical mixture on a daily basis to sanitize various public places and institutions to contain the further spread of deadly coronavirus (COVID-19) disease.

Commissioner SMC, Gazanfar Ali said that the Corporation has pressed into service its mechanized decontamination vehicles and special teams of workers for sanitization and cleanliness of places of public importance.

“Around 5000 workers equipped with protective gear are carrying out decontamination and sanitation works besides 240 vehicles including tippers, loaders, compactors, dumpers and other vehicles have been put into service,” the Commissioner said.

He said that around 50,000 litres of chemical mixture is being sprayed during the sanitization works which includes use of Quaternary ammonium compound in decontamination tunnels and is also sprayed within 300 meters radius of the house of the COVID positive cases. Besides, Sodium Hypochlorite mixture is used for the overall sanitization of other areas including lanes and bye lanes.

Furthermore, SMC has installed decontamination tunnels in all the government hospitals in Srinagar to ensure persons visiting hospitals including doctors, hospital workers, patients and other attendants get sanitized instantly while entering or leaving the hospital premises.

The tunnels have been installed at Bones and Joint Hospital, JLNM Hospital, CD Hospital, LD Hospital, GB Pant, JVC Kashmir Nursing Home, SMHS Hospital and two tunnels were installed at SKIMS Srinagar.

Besides, sanitization of hospital surroundings by the Corporation is a regular affair to contain the spread of novel coronavirus.

The Commissioner further informed that in continuation of the sanitization drive, SMC has also decontaminated 20 Child Care Homes and Institutes.

These include Observation Home in Harwan, Shiekh-ul-Alam Yateem Trust in Jawahar Nagar, SOS Village in Haiderpora, Agosh in Moominabad Batmaloo, A-Muzammil in Lawaypora HMT, Al-Mausumeen in Gilli Kadal Lalbazar, Cradle Baby Centre in Sonwar, Markazi Falahi Itifal in Shalimar, Markazi Falahi Mastoorat in Shalimar, CTF in Baghat, Baitul Banat in Haft Chinar, Gulshan Mahal Hostel – A in Mukhdoom Sahib, Gulshan Mahal Hostel – B in Soura, J&K Yateem Khana at Bemina Crossing, FETO at Batmaloo, Mohamadiya Yateem Trust in Chanapora, Borderless Foundation in Chanapora, Baitul Altaf in HMT, Gujjar Bakerwal Hostel in Gogjibagh and Gujjar Bakerwal Hostel at Rajbagh.

Besides, Leper Colony in Behrar, Psychiatric Hospital and Central Jail in Rainawari have also been sanitized by the Corporation.

Commissioner SMC said that such drives will also be conducted at other public places.
