Srinagar: Amid lockdown and restrictions in the wake of the spread of Covid-19, Friday congregational prayers were not held in the mosques in Kashmir.

Though Azan (call for prayers) was recited from all mosques but simultaneously announcements were made asking people to offer prayers at their respective homes to defeat the spread of coronavirus.

No congregational prayers were offered at three main venues, Dargah Hazratbal, Jama Masjid and Khankah.

Meanwhile, restrictions on the movement and assembly of people in Kashmir to contain the spread of coronavirus were tightened on Friday in view of congregational prayers, officials said.

The congregational prayers were not held at most mosques of the valley last Friday as various religious organisations appealed the people to offer prayers at home.
