Army, Air Force aid SMC to combat COVID-19

Srinagar: Due to the spell of bad weather and unpredictability of the road links to the Valley, the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) had approached the Army for their help in providing assistance to airlift sterilization chemicals, a defense spokesman said in a statement issued here today.

The statement said that based on the requirement projected, the Army in close coordination with the Air Force airlifted 1,200 Kilograms of the specialised sterilisation chemicals from Delhi to Srinagar. Two Dornier aircrafts of the Indian Air Force were pressed into service immediately for the airlift.

The prompt response in organising the airlift by the Army and Air Force, ensured that the critical chemicals as required by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) could be made available well in time. The joint efforts of all stakeholders guaranteed that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) will be well equipped to keep the people of Kashmir safe and effectively combat the ever increasing threat of the virus reaching the Valley.
