SRINAGAR, MARCH 05: The Srinagar administration is launching a district-wide awareness campaign about the coronavirus disease and the precautions that need to be followed to prevent its spread.

This was informed in a meeting with the concerned departments convened here Thursday under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary.

The awareness campaign will focus on precautions that need to be followed to prevent spread and acquisition of the coronavirus disease.

Several departments will be involved in the effort with the Social Welfare and the Integrated Child Development Services or ICDS departments to play the main role therein.

The meeting was informed that the Health department of the district has prepared the necessary knowledge material which will be shared with the general public as part of this awareness campaign.

The DC while speaking on the occasion said that in view of the fact that there is still no vaccine for the virus the awareness about precautions that need to be followed was a key to preventing and its spread.

He said the administration is taking all measures possible to prevent its spread in J&K and urged the general public to be well informed about this disease and the precautions that need following while not panicking.

Dr Shahid said preventive measures are in place in Srinagar since a month ago adding that these measures have now been enhanced after reporting of confirmed cases in the country.

The meeting was informed that more help-desks are being set up in the district for the convenience of those requiring information about it or assistance with getting tested for it.

Officers and officials of Social Welfare and ICDS departments attended the meeting. Chief Medical Officer and District Epidemiologist Srinagar were also present.
