Committee on J&K Communication and Connectivity Infrastructure Policy holds meet

JAMMU, MARCH 04: The committee constituted to finalize Draft J&K Communication and Connectivity Infrastructure Policy, today convened a meeting under the chairmanship of Principal Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department, Dheeraj Gupta.

Detailed deliberations were held on various facets of the Policy besides issues surrounding the policy requiring interdepartmental coordination and support.

While chairing the meeting, Dheeraj Gupta, underscored the need to finalize the policy in a time bound manner as it will go a long way in promoting ease of doing business, time bound clearances and NOCs from different departments, resolve issues of infrastructure providers and TSPs, besides promoting uniformity of rates streamlining of process and procedures in tune with Central RoW rules of 2016 issued by Department of Telecommunication, GoI.

It was informed that formulation of RoW policy for the UT of J&K would provide improved connectivity besides encouraging Digital India initiatives, Bharat Net, SWAN and improving the ranking of UT in Broadband Readiness Index (BRI).

Dheeraj Gupta directed that IT department should make ample use of domain expertise of Department of Telecommunication in formulating the final draft of the policy in coordination with other departments, besides benchmarking the best practices prevalent in other states.

The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Additional Secretary IT Department, Additional Secretary Revenue department, Additional Secretary PDD, Deputy Director General/Director DoT, LSA-J&K and other officers and Officials of Information Technology Department.
