District Volleyball Championship concludes in Bandipora

BANDIPORA, FEBRUARY 26: The District Volleyball Championship 2020 organized by the District Volleyball Association Bandipora concluded, here today.

The Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Shahbaz Ahmad Mirza distributed prizes among winning teams.

The tournament was organized at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Nadihal Bandipora and 18 teams from across the district participated in the championship of various categories including Sub-Junior, Junior and Senior.

Army Goodwill School, Volleyball Club Bandipore won the Sub-Junior category title beating Ali Sports Academy (ASA) Club in the finals. ASA Bazipora Club lifted the winners’ trophy in Junior Boys category beating Bazipora Tigers while in Senior Men category Shadipora Volleyball Club lifted winner’s trophy by beating JKP Bandipore Volleyball club.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the youngsters of Bandipora have showcased an exceptional talent in different activities and have received recognition at national and international levels. He said the district administration has taken up the task to provide better sports infrastructure at village level so that the youth are able to polish their skills to perform better in competitions.

He said Indoor stadium Shadipora has been completed at the cost of 4.83 crore under PMDP and sports kits worth crores have been distributed at Panchayat level and in schools across the the district.

While expressing satisfaction over the enthusiastic participation of youth in sports activities in the district, Mirza said a comprehensive plan for youth to participate in sports activities at Panchayat, block and inter-block level has been formulated for sports events including volleyball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, badminton and tug of war.
