Srinagar, Feb 8: PDP leader Naeem Akhtar was booked under PSA today while as the two more National Conference leaders including former Speaker of erstwhile J&K Legislative Assembly, Mubarak Gul, and Tranvir Sadiq, advisor to the incarcerated party vice-president Omar Abdullah, were placed under house-arrest soon after their release from MLA hostel here Saturday.

Gul and Sadiq along with dozens other mainstream politicians were detained and kept at makeshift detention centre at Centaur hours before the Centre abrogated special constitutional position of Jammu and Kashmir and divided it into two Union Territories on August 05 last year.

The development came couple of days after two former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti and few senior politicians were slapped with Public Safety Act (PSA) by the Union Territory administration.

NC president and three times former chief minister Dr Farooq Abdullah continues to be detained under PSA at his residence cum sub-jail at Gupkar Road. His son Omar Abdullah has been kept at Hari Niwas and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti serves preventive detention at government quarters at Maulana Azad Road.

Family sources of Tanvir Sadiq told ‘Kashmir Images’ that he was placed under house-arrest at his Saidakadal residence soon after he was released from MLA hostel this afternoon. Mubarak Gul has also been placed under house-arrest at his residence.

Earlier the administration had released Peoples Conference (PC) chairman and former minister, Sajjad Gani Lone and PDP youth president Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra from MLA hostel and placed them under house detention at their residences.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has slapped the Public Safety Act (PSA) on senior PDP leader Naeem Akhtar, officials said on Saturday.

Akhtar became the sixth mainstream leader in Kashmir to be booked under the controversial PSA, which was enacted in 1978 to deal with rampant timber smuggling.

The other five booked under PSA are Dr Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, Ali Mohammad Sagar and Sartaj Madani.
