Police arrests ‘notorious fraudster’

Srinagar, Aug 01: Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a notorious cheater and fraudster who had duped a KAS officer of Rs 3.5 lakhs.

Danish Bashir Lanker, son of Bashir Ahmad Lanker of Rangreth, Wayoosa, police said has been masquerading as and fraudulently claiming to be senior manager of Bosch International.

This way he cunningly developed friendly relations with the KAS officer posted at Civil Secretariat, Srinagar and secured his Adhaar Card and banking details.

The accused Danish used this information for drafting stamp papers on which certain undertakings were typed.

The accused took the officer to Delhi for inauguration of his nonexistent optical fiber unit, where the victim was threatened and blackmailed into sharing his MPay account and password details and subsequently cheated of Rs 3.5 Lakhs, police said.

The victim officer upon reaching back to Srinagar approached police and a case was registered against Danish, who was eventually arrested, police said.
