DDMA Leh holds mock drill

LEH, JULY 26: District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Leh conducted mock drill on disaster preparedness in Leh on Friday. Stakeholders representing Army, ITBP, SDRF, Civil Defense, Air Force, CRPF, Police and district officers, gathered at the Emergency Operation Center (EOC) near Council Secretariat. Besides, four camp centres were also identified at Government Girls Higher Secondary School Leh, EJM College Leh, Tashi Thongsmon Choglamsar and Food Craft Institute Takshi Thang.

Deputy Commissioner Leh Avny Lavasa, who is also the Chairperson, DDMA Leh, addressing the stakeholders at the J&K Culture Academy, Leh auditorium said that the mock drill is conducted to sensitize stakeholders with the preparedness at the time of disaster.

NIC centre at Divisional Commissioners Office complex will continue to be the main meeting point at the time of any disaster as the office has uninterrupted power supply, and communication facilities.

The DC said four identified centres have been equipped with basic facilities in case of emergency and have all the basic facilities of food, shelter, drinking water and toilet and medical aid.

State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) has been conducting awareness camps at various community levels and schools and their awareness will prove helpful, said DC.

Later, DC Lavasa inspected the equipment display by SDRF and Civil Defense at the EOC centre and also visited all the four identified centres to assess their disaster preparedness.
