Srinagar-Leh highway, Mughal Road closed due to landslides

Srinagar, Jul 25: The Srinagar-Leh highway was temporarily closed for traffic on Thursday due to landslides at several places triggered by rains.

Reports said that traffic on Srinagar-Leh road has been closed due to landslides at different places near Zojila pass.

They said that a large number of vehicles including those carrying essentials for Ladakh region were stranded on both sides of the highway.

“The Border Roads Organisation pressed in service its men and machines and launched clearance operation to reopen the road for traffic,” a police official said.

The Mughal Road was also closed for traffic due to landslides triggered by heavy rains in Jammu region on Thursday, officials said.

The landslide occurred at Poshana on the Mughal Road, which led to the closure of the route. Several vehicles are stranded and efforts are being made to clear the blockade, they said.

The Mughal Road connects Poonch and Rajouri districts with Shopian of South Kashmir.
