Northern Army Commander visits Dihar Leh

Srinagar, July 23: Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, GOC-IN-C, Northern Command and Kalpana Singh Dhatt, Regional President, AWWA accompanied by Lieutenant General YK Joshi, General Officer Commanding ‘Fire and Fury’ Corps visited the Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), Leh.

According to a defense spokesperson, DIHAR is an agro-animal R&D Institute of the DRDO, located in the high altitude cold desert trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh, which is mandated to fulfill the fresh food requirements of troops in the Sector, by developing appropriate technologies. Both the General Officer & Regional President, AWWA were briefed on the various activities being undertaken by the institute by Dr OP Chaurasia, Director DIHAR.

“Over the years, with the effort of DIHAR, local farmers of Ladakh are able to supply fresh food requirement of the Army during the summer season. Now the institute is intensively endeavoring to develop technologies whereby local supply of vegetables during winter months can be enhanced. During the visit, Director DIHAR briefed the Army Commander about the potential future technologies developed by DIHAR, to be deployed in remote Army locations in the border areas of Ladakh,” the spokesman said.

“The Army Commander congratulated the DIHAR Team for their excellent R&D efforts, which are benefiting the soldiers deployed in forward areas of Ladakh sector as well as the local society at large,” the spokesman added.
