Sopore, July 12: The residents of Chinkiproa (A) in north Kashmir’s Sopore town have demanded upgrading of Sub Centre to a Primary Health Center (PHC).

Locals told Kashmir Images that the Sub Centre was setup in 2014 but due to the official apathy, the health facility is lying defunct in absence of doctors and medicines.

“One Female Multipurpose Health Worker (FMPHW) and a sweeper is posted at the Sub Centre, while as no medicines are available there,” said a local resident, Majid Ahmad Mir.

President Auqaf Committee Chinkipora A said, “We have provided a shop, which belongs to a nearby mosque, to health department in 2014 but unfortunately the health department has failed to ensure the smooth functioning of the health facility.”

When contacted Block Medical Officer Sopore, Dr Sami, said, “As of now, we cannot appoint any doctor or pharmacist at the Sub Centre because our medical staff remains busy with the Yatra duty.”

“We are releasing medicines for all Sub Centres soon,” the officer added.
