SCPWCR organizes awareness prog on protection of women, child rights at Ganderbal

GANDERBAL, JULY 3: – The J&K State Commission for Protection of Women & Child Rights (SCPWCR) today organized an awareness programme on protection of women and child rights at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Ganderbal.

Giving an overview of activities of Commission, Secretary, J&K State Commission for Protection of Women and Child Rights informed that the core mandate of the SCPWCR is to work for the protection of women and child rights, to inquire into the complaints of violation of women and child rights, besides taking suo-motto cognizance of cases of violation of both women and child rights. The Commission also organizes workshops, seminars legal awareness programmes and interaction-cum- awareness programme to sensitize the stakeholders about their legal rights. He informed that organizing such awareness programmes provide a platform to participants to share their experiences and get feedback, besides the stakeholders get a chance to understand the enactments   better with regards to the protection of women and child rights.

Delivering lectures during the programme, the speakers highlighted the importance of protection of women and child rights, saying that these sections of society are the most vulnerable sections and their problems can never be ignored. They stressed that the students should be vigilant and have to raise their voice in the face of any kind of abuse or violation of their rights.  They suggested that such programmes should be organized at Panchayat levels so that the stakeholders are sensitized at grass root levels.

The students took part in enthusiastically during the programme and evinced keen interest to know about the legal rights of women and child. They also raised various questions with regard to topics which were replied by the resource persons.

Among others, teachers, and a large number of students attended the programme.
