Gulmarg Gondola burglary case solved within week: Police

Gulmarg: Police on Tuesday confirmed to have solved the Gulmarg Gondola burglary and recovered 39 Lakh out of the total 51 lakh stolen cash.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Baramulla, Abdul Qayoom, told media that GGP State Cable Car Corporation Limited, Suhail Bashir,  had informed Police Station Gulmarg that cash amounting to Rs. 51 Lacs had been stolen during the intervening night of 23/ 24-06-2019.

Following the information, Police registered a case in Police Station Gulmarg under an FIR No 5/2019 u/s 457, 380 RPC and started investigation.

“After completing basis legal formalities Police inspected all available CCTV footage around Gulmarg bowl and noticed some suspicious movements around the place of occurrence and one of the suspects was identified as Bashir Ahmad Shah alais  MLA son of  Ghulam Mohammad Shah of Gund Dalwach,” he said.

He further said that the suspect was apprehended and upon his sustained questioning he had confessed to having committed the crime. He also identified four more accomplices including Abdul Ahad Ganai son of Abdul Rehman Ganie of Hardichloo-an employee of Cable Car Corporation,  Abdul Majeed Lone son Ghulam Ahmad Lone of Chanpora, Imtiyaz Bhat son of Ghulam Qadir of Hardichloo and Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh son of  Mohammad Abdullah of Chuntipathri.

The SSP further informed that all the other suspects were subsequently arrested and on their disclosures/ identification cash amounting to 39 Lacs has been recovered so far.

He further said that the investigations have revealed that Abdul Ahad Ganai was the mastermind of the burglary who hatched the whole plan and provided vital information to the group for executing the plan after drawingthe layout of the cashier room.

Also, two of the suspects namely, Imtiyaz and Majeed lone have FIRs registered in their names for multiple burglaries in the area, police official added.
