First of its kind, Women Conclave held at Budgam

BUDGAM, JULY 01: District Administration Budgam today organised a first of its kind Women Conclave at Sheikh ul Alam Hall Budgam.

Celebrating womanhood, renowned speakers, all women from various fields spoke on the legal rights, legal protection, harassment and related issues of womenfolk.

The speakers included Munsiff, District Court Budgam, Tabasum Qadir Parray, CEO Budgam, Fatima Tak, District Tuberculosis Officer Dr Adfat, JKEDI District Officer Dr Naila, Incharge women cell Budgam, Inspector Gulshan, ACDPO Social Welfare Shaheen Rasool,  and Entrepreneur Rubeena Tabasum.

The speakers thoroughly deliberated on the issues of domestic violence and sexual harassment at workplaces, legal rights of women and informed the participants about various women specific schemes and government initiatives under various departments including EDI, Education and Health.

The programme was attended by female officers of different government departments, female journalists associated with national and state media organizations/portals along with scores of employees, students and female participants from diverse fields.

Information about different women centric schemes and services was highlighted in great detail by the speakers. Tabasum Qadir, Munsif Judge Budgam highlighted the constitutional  provisions and other legal rights, legislations enacted and other provisions in Cr.PC and IPC regarding the enforcement of rights of women. Gulshana, Incharge Women Police Cell, Budgam shared some life experiences of women harassment cases in the district.

One stop centre, education related schemes, awareness of EDI schemes were also discussed in great detail along with experience sharing sessions by speaker, Rubeena Tabasum.  Awareness regarding health and hygiene issues by Dr Adfat were also part of the programme. Interaction sessions were also held in which women took up various issues confronting them in day today life-at home and at work places.

During the technical sessions, speakers besides elaborating upon women welfare schemes, emphasised on female participants to exhibit confidence in their abilities and make all efforts to excel in their endeavours.

Felicitation of the merit holder Girl Students of recently concluded NEET was the attraction of the day. Incinerators/vending machines were also distributed to the government girls schools of the district for the benefit of girls students along with distribution of sanitary napkin packs to the orphans students.

DC Budgam, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar, who was the chief guest while speaking on the concluding session deliberated in detail about various levels of women empowerment. She stressed upon participants to take initiative to break the taboo of female inferiority. She said this is need of the modern times that women be part of great changes the society is going through and contribute more in social and economic development of the societies.

While highlighting the role of women in all diverse patterns of society who form half of the population of the creation, she said it is incumbent upon a mature and just society to recognise the role of women and that society cannot be empowered unless and until women are not.

However, she also cautioned the participants about misusing the rights conferred upon the women.

While highlighting the achievements of some notable women personalities, she emphasised upon the participants to exhibit same character particularly in having self-confidence.

She also spoke about various issues confronting girls in schools vis a vis health and hygiene and the steps the district administration is taking in the institutional building for empowering women.

She further stressed for standing up without fear for enforcement of women rights, for taking initiative for career building, overcoming all environmental and family hindrances which may pull oneself down.
