He said the slain militant has been identified as Aadil Rehman Das of Waghama village of Bijbehara. His body was found on a hilltop in Boomteng near Sirhama. The body was handed over to his family members after completion of the medico-legal formalities, the spokesperson said.

The injured militant, identified as Arif Hussain Bhat of Fathepora Bijbehara, was taken into custody and admitted to a hospital where he is being administered medical treatment, he said.

He said police have registered a case in this regard and started investigations.

The spokesperson, however, did not give details as to how Dass was killed or Bhat sustained injuries even as there were conflicting versions about Dass’ death.

Some reports suggested that he was killed in a group clash with LeT militants while others said he was killed during an ambush laid by security forces.

Dass had joined LeT last year in July, however, he later switched sides to ISJK. “There was some dispute between LeT and ISJK as the former wanted him to return the weapon which belonged to his parent outfit (LeT),” a police official said.
