Protests held against illegal constructions in Gulmarg

Srinagar, June 24: Demanding immediate ban on illegal constructions at tourist resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir, civil society and traders from Tangmarg and Gulmarg Monday staged demonstration here to protest alleged silence of Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA) over the issue.

“Save Gulmarg save future, stop illegal construction at Gulmarg” shouted the protesters who had assembled at Press Enclave to register their protest against illegal construction which they alleged is going on unabated at  ski resort Gulmarg despite High Court Ban.

Protesters alleged that bureaucrats and politicians with connivance of GDA have erected multi story hotels, resorts and huts in and around Gulmarg while as the authorities despite being well aware of the violation have maintained silence.

They said the number of illegal structures have come up near Gulmarg forests which not only endangers wild animals but also affects people associated with tourist business.

Demanding immediate ban on illegal construction, protesters appealed Governor Satypal Malik to order a thorough probe into the issue so as the violator’s take lesson for lifetime.

They said north Kashmir traders and civil society will intensify their protest in case the government failed to take action against the violators.
