Global School Sports Forum: J&K Sportspersons Felicitated by CII

Srinagar, June 22: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Saturday felicitated leading sportspersons from Jammu and Kashmir at the second leg of the Global School Sports Forum – Integrating Education and Sports #MakingIndiaPlayin Srinagar.

Those felicitated included Bilquis Mir – Water Sports, Ishfaq Ahmed – Football and MehrajuddinWadoo – Football in recognition of their outstanding excellence in the field of sports who have made the state and India proud.

In a press statement issued here, the spokesperson of CII said: “The main objective of the conference was to harness the local potential, explore new ideas and discuss the most suitable course of action towards making sports an integral part of education in the region.”

Speaking at the inaugural session, Deep Mukherjee, CEO, CII National committee & Head of Sports Development, Star India, said: “We need to look at school sports with the lens of education. Sports should be an integral part of the school curriculum for children. We are looking at creating new opportunities for the children in Srinagar by integrating sports and education towards realising the dream of Samagra Shiksha and the vision of making ‘300 million children playing 60 minutes daily’. #MakingIndiaPlay.”

Juan Pablo Ramirez Miranda,Programme Specialist ,Head of Social Sciences and Human Sciences, UNESCO New Delhi cluster office, emphasised “the importance of being mindful of gender equality because of the power of sports for girls and women empowerment “and signaled the social value of investments on quality physical education.

The conclave also witnessed inspirational stories from you women who had chosen sports as a career. It was followed by a football match involving women’s team from Eithiad FC and J.J. 7 FC.

The dignitaries gracing the forum included Dr Peer GN Suhail- Mission Director, Jammu and Kashmir Skill Development Mission. Rajesh Sharma, Chairman, CII J&K State Council and MD, SRA Foods Pvt. Ltd. and IqramShafiee, MD, Shafiee Healthcare Pvt. Ltd.
