J&K Taekwondo team bags 7 medals in Olympic Ranking Championship

Jammu, June 19: For the first time in the history of Jammu & Kashmir, the state Taekwondo team has bagged 7 medals, including 1 gold, 1 silver and 5 bronze medals in ‘2nd India Open International Taekwondo Olympic ranking Championship (G1 level)’ held at Gachibowli Indoor Sports Complex , Hyderabad ,Telangana.

25 countries participated in the above mentioned championship, including some Olympic ranking teams like Afghanistan, Australia, Oman & Saudi Arabia.

Amandeep won gold, Mufti Sauleh silver Achutam Dev Singh, Afreen Hyder, Sadia Tariq, Zain Nazir  and Salvi Saini  while as finished up grabbing bronze.

Team Afghanistan clinched the senior overall title both in male and female categories, while as Team India stood 2nd in the medal tally.

In a statement issued here, spokesperson J&K Taekwondo Association (JKTA) said: “It was for the very first time when Team J&K Taekwondo participated in an Olympic ranking international event sanctioned by World Taekwondo with the support of Master Atul Pangotra (International player/referee / referee chairman Taekwondo Federation of India.”

“Our team being able to secure 7 medals in the championship and we are highly thankful to our President and acting President TFI (Taekwondo Federation of India), D.N Pangotra, Vice President Nissar Hussain, Romesh Chander Sharma Joint Secretary for supporting the whole team throughout the whole championship,” reads the statement.

“We congratulate the whole team for giving their best in the championship, especially all the medalists, who put their efforts to secure the medals for the country as well as the state. I feel blessed as my dream of seeing my players to be the part of team India has come true,” the statement quoted JKTA President D.N Pangotra and Spokesperson Subash Shastri  as saying.
