Ladakh boy makes it to World University Games

Srinagar, Jun 14: In a first, a boy from Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh division has made it to World University Games after his selection in the Indian universities’ taekwondo team for the upcoming World University Games slated to be held in Napoli (Italy) from July 03 to 14, media reports said on Friday.

Tundu, a resident of Khachey area of Ladakh division’s Kargil district, is currently doing a diploma course in Yoga from the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu (JU).

Tundu has been selected on the basis of his performance in the Inter-University Taekwondo Championship held at Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak, from March 09 to 17, 2019, wherein he clinched a silver medal. The JU team claimed a bronze medal in the same championship.

“First of all, I would like to thank my parents Tsering Dolma and Tsering Angchok who always supported me and believed in my taekwondo skills. It is only due to their blessings that I have been able to make them proud,” ‘The Tribune’ quoted Tundup as saying.

The young boy has now become the first taekwondo player from the state to compete at World University Games.
