Srinagar, Jun 09: Transporters across the state would observe a strike on June 12 (Wednesday) against levying of toll tax on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and the recent government order asking them to install hi-tech systems such as vehicle location tracking devices and panic button in the vehicles.

Various transporters’ groups said that the strike will also be observed to press for demands like speedy verification of documents, and will also be held by the Jammu transporters.

“Heavy toll charges (Rs 285) for a bus on national highway is a burden. Transport sector has been suffering huge losses in the Valley and now administration wants us to install hi-tech gadgets in our vehicles which costs almost Rs 20,000. It is a burden on us,” they said.

They said that the transporters have decided to go for a day-long token strike and that if demands are not met they will intensify the stir and go for indefinite ‘chakka-jam’ strike.

They also said that buses, Sumos, auto-rickshaws and all other commercial vehicles will observe the strike on June 12.
