2-day disaster preparedness prog gets underway in Kargil

KARGIL, JUNE 09: A two-day community-based disaster preparedness and awareness programme commenced here at  Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium today.

The programme was held on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kargil Baseer ul Haq Choudhary, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) Kargil.

During the programme National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force(SDRF) and District Red Cross Committee members imparted training to volunteers and other participants on different aspects of Basic First Aid, bandaging, emergency lifting methods, equipment display besides other ways to deal with different kinds of disasters.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Kargil Sonam Chosjor, besides other concerned officers were present on the occasion.

SDRF staff, Red Cross Volunteers besides 80 participants participated in the programme.

Meanwhile, the NDRF Incharge Inspector Dukhia Hem appreciated DDMA Kargil for having organized such a programme  in the district and urged the need to continue such awareness programs in future as well so as to enlighten people about ways and means to deal with different types of disasters.

Meanwhile, an NDRF team is on a 15-day visit to the district for the conduct of Area Familiarization Exercise (FAMEX) to assess the area in terms of different disasters.

The 12 member team will visit different parts of the district during their stay and will also conduct disaster preparedness programmes.

Pertinently, this is the first time an NDRF team is visiting the district.
