DG Fire visits SMGS Hospital Jammu

Jammu, May 28: DG Fire and Emergency Services J&K V.K. Singh, IPS on Tuesday visited critical areas of Pediatrics Department SMGS Hospital Jammu including NICU-A, NICU-B, NICU-C & PICU areas.

The visit was aimed at getting an updated knowledge about the existing infrastructure of Fire fighting equipments/Hydrants & other logistics installed in the Hospital for the safety of newborns & infants admitted in the ICU.

He was accompanied by Principal & Dean GMC & AH Dr.Sunanda Raina, Medical Superintendent Dr.Manoj Chalotra, Dy. Med. Suptd Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Asst. Med. Suptd. Dr. Meenakshi Kotwal, HOD Pediatrics Dr. Ghanshyam Saini, Casualty Medical Officers & Security Incharge R.S. Manhas along with other Fire Services personnel.

The fire audit of the SMGS Hospital had been carried out previously and a report was submitted to the Medical Superintendent SMGS Hospital Jammu on March 14, 2019 in which the short comings in fire fighting system were conveyed and recommendations made for additional fire appliances. T

The DG impressed on the Principal GMC Jammu & the Medical Superintendent SMGS Jammu to expedite action on the various points mentioned in the Fire Audit. The fire alarms and fire pumps are not functioning and there is a need to get the equipment in working order immediately. The few fire extinguishers that are deployed are non-functional and need refilling. The DG urged the Medical authorities to take corrective steps at least for the ICUs from available funds.

DG Fire Services also directed the Divisional Fire Officer Gandhi Nagar Jammu and Incharge Fire Station City Jammu to conduct regular review of the fire fighting system besides conducting Mock Drills for the sake of patient safety during fire incidents or other emergencies
