Srinagar, May 23: Zakir Musa, who headed the Al Qaeda affiliate Ansar Gazwatul Hind, was killed in a gunfight on Thursday evening.
Sources said that following information about the presence of two militants, the government forces had started a cordon and search operation in Dadsara village of Tral area.
“The trapped hurled grenades at the forces and thereby triggering an encounter,” they said adding one of the dead was identified as Zakir Musa.
