Anti-poppy cultivation drives held across Kashmir

Poppy cultivation over 100 kanals of land destroyed

SRINAGAR, MAY 22: The sleuths of Excise Department headed by Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO) North, South and Central Excise ranges today destroyed poppy grown over 1244 kanals  of land in various areas of Shopian, Pulwama, Anantnag, Kulgam, Budgam, Bandipora and Baramulla areas.

The ETO Excise Range South destroyed poppy grown on 465 kanals of land in Shopian, 230 kanals in Pulwama, 93 kanals in Anantnag and on 47 kanals of land in Kulgam.

The ETO Excise Range Central destroyed poppy grown on 254 kanals of land in Budgam district.

Similarly The ETO Excise Range Central destroyed poppy grown on 75 kanals of land in Bandipora and 80 kanals in Baramulla.

The Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Kashmir said that the drive against the illicit crop shall continue in the areas around the valley where such illicit cultivation is going on in organized manners.

Meanwhile, a massive anti poppy cultivation drive was held in various parts of district Anantnag, today under the guidance of DC Anantnag Khalid Jahangir.

Teams headed by Tehsildars of Sallar, Bijbehara, Shangus and Dooru in collaboration with, Excise and Police departments destroyed poppy under cultivation on 130 Kanals of land in their respective Tehsils.

The general public have hailed this initiative of the administration and hoped that such drives would continue in future too.
