Geelani convenes Majlis Shoora meet at Hyderpora
Discusses prevailing political situation
Srinagar, May 18: Hurriyat Conference (G) chief spokesperson Saturday said that extraordinary meeting of Hurriyat Majlis Shoora (Consultative Body) held at Hyderpora and convened by Chairman Syed Ali Geelani, discussed at length the prevailing political situation of Jammu and Kashmir, with reference to the ongoing movement for right to self-determination.
According to a statement issued here, after taking a serious note of the broad discussion, opinions and proposals put forward by Shoora members, Geelani in his presidential address said that the people of Kashmir are engaged in a legitimate democratic and political movement of right to self-determination.
“We have been subjugated and victimized for our genuine political beliefs,” said Geelani while giving details of the precious and exemplary sacrifices rendered by the people of Kashmir since 1947. Condemning the use of brute force and military might to suppress the freedom sentiments of the people, he advised Majlis Shoora not to succumb to the repression and suppression used by India to defy the will of the people.
Reiterating the stand taken by Hurriyat Conference that Kashmir is a political and human issue which needs an early resolution according to the wishes and aspirations of the people, for a prosperous subcontinent, Geelani urged the United Nations to use its official position and prevail upon India to display its willingness to resolve this long pending issue in the larger interests of permanent peace and progress of the whole South Asia.
Hurriyat (G) Chairman also demanded an effective check on the gross violation of human rights at the hands of Indian occupation forces in the nook and corner of Jammu and Kashmir, by sending a selected team of United Nations Human Rights Commission, International Committee for Red-Cross, Amnesty International and Asia Watch.
The meeting paid tributes to the slain persons of Pulwama, Shopian along with all the persons who have sacrificed their precious lives since 1931. The meeting also hailed the steadfastness and commitment displayed by all our prisoners of conscious languishing in and outside jails.
The meeting condemned strongly the vile action of banning Jamaat-e-Islami, a purely religious organization and pro-freedom political party JKLF. The meeting decided to organize a seminar in relation to “Message of Ramadan” at Hyderpora on May 26, 2019.
Those constituents who participated in the Majlis Shoora meeting include Haji Gh. Nabi Sumji, Bashir Ahmad Indrabi, Hakeem Abdul Rashid, Syed Mohammad Shafi, Gh. Mohammad Nagoo, Mohammad Yaseen Aataie, Mohammad Maqbool Magami, Arshad Aziz, Khawaja Firdous Ahmad, Molvi Bashir Ahmad Irfani, Mohammad Yousuf Naqash, Zamrooda Habib, Bilal Ahmad Sidqui and G. A. Meanwhile, Geelani in a press release condemned the act of ‘political vendetta’ in which Javed Hussain an innocent resident of Dachan Kishtwar has been incarcerated by the police authorities on the pretext that his son has joined militant rank and files in Kishtwar.
Terming the police action as a ‘mark of injustice’, Geelani said that father and son cannot be punished in lieu of each other for having different ideologies. He also strongly condemned the summoning of his two daughters by NIA to its Delhi Office and the frequent raids of the armed forces at odd times and without having any legal or moral justification. Geelani urged the international human rights organizations to take cognizance of the plight of the innocent families at the hands of forces.
