Man held for ‘spreading hatred on social media’
Srinagar, May 16: Police have registered a formal case against a recent video that surfaced on social media, which it said “was promoting hatred against a particular sect thereby promoting feelings of animosity and hatred between different sections of the society”.
Legal proceedings have been initiated after proper registration of case under relevant sections at Police Station Safakadal, a police spokesman said.
“After strenuous efforts police was able to track the accused namely Feroz Ahmed Nath, son of Abdul Rehman Nath, resident of Palpora, who has been taken into custody,” spokesman said.
He said people are appealed to not pay heed to the rumours and fake news and not fall prey to the propaganda of “such elements inimical to peace”.
“Srinagar police is committed to take strict legal action against the rumour-mongers and any person spreading hatred among various sections of the society,” spokesman said.
