Srinagar, May 14: Advisor to Governor, K Vijay Kumar, Tuesday assured speedy investigation into the horrific Sumbal rape incident and said that the culprit would be given an exemplary punishment as per the law.
The Advisor said that in the present case special medical team would go into ascertaining the age of the accused.
He said with due regard to all facts, a decision would be taken regarding the lowering the age for punishment to 16 years after detailed discussions with fellow advisors, various interest groups, secretaries, and police.
“The matter would then be taken up with the Governor and an appropriate recommendation would be made to the Centre for amendment in the law, wherever required,” he added.
